What is KVPY?

cbse online coaching Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a program launched in 1999 by the Government of India's Department of Science and Technology (DST) to encourage students studying basic sciences to pursue a career in science research. The program's objective is to locate and facilitate talented and motivated students to pursue a research career. The KVPY initiative focuses on helping students to realize their potential and ensure that the country's best scientific talent is created for research and development. In this way, an identity card is given to each KVPY Fellow in order to have access to National Laboratories / Universities that have agreed to grant special privileges such as libraries, testing services, etc. to KVPY Fellows on ID card production.

The KVPY Fellowship advertisement usually occurs every year on the Technology Day (May 11) and the Second Sunday of July in all national dailies. Selection of students are drawn from those enrolled in the class XI to the first year of any B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having aptitude for scientific research. There is an Aptitude Test (in Mathematics and Subjects of Science) that one has to qualify in order to become eligible for fellowship in KVPY. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview marks are considered. The selected KVPY Fellows will receive generous fellowship and contingency grant up to the pre-Ph. D. level or 5 years, whichever is earlier. Therefore, KVPY Fellows' summer camps are organized in the country's prominent science and educational institutions.

The Department of Science and Technology, the government's nodal agency, has assigned to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, the complete responsibility for coordinating and operating the KVPY Program and has set up a Management Committee and a National Advisory Committee (NAC) to oversee its implementation. A core committee looks after the KVPY Program's everyday and academic aspects.
