What is AFCAT Eligibility Criteria?

Nationality: Candidates must be a citizen of India

AFCAT Educational Qualifications:

Branch Educational qualification
Flying branch Education : Candidates must have passed 12 Class with minimum 50% in Maths and Physics AND
Graduation in any discipline with 60% or equivalent. OR
BE/BTech with 60% or equivalent. OR
Candidates have cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60%.
Min Height : 162.5 cms with correlated weight
Min Vision : 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in other
Ground Duty (Technical) Branch Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics):
Education : Candidates must have passed 12 Class with minimum 50% in Maths and Physics AND
Four years degree Engineering/ Technology OR
Cleared Sections A and B of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60% in disciplines specified by the examination authority.
Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical):  
Candidates must have passed 12 Class with minimum 50% in Maths and Physics AND
Degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology. OR
Cleared sections A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with minimum 60% marks or equivalent in certain disciplines specified by IAF.
Min Height : 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women - 152 cms
Ground Duty (Non-Technical) branches Education : Candidates must have passed 10+2 with Arts / Commerce / Science & secured min 50% AND
Graduation degree (Min 3 years) in any discipline with min 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India with a min of 60% marks or equivalent. for Administration and Logistics posts, OR
B.Com (Min 3 years) with min 60% marks for Accounts posts, OR
MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT / Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation for Education posts
Min Height : 157.5 cms with correlated weight, women - 152 cms.

Note: Kindly note that Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) would be administered to recommended candidates only. CPSS is once in a lifetime test. Candidates who have failed the CPSS/ PABT in an earlier attempt or a Flight Cadet suspended from flying training at Air Force Academy will not be eligible.

AFCAT Age Limit

The age limits prescribed for the AFCAT exam are different for different branches.

Branches Age Limit
Flying branch Candidates should be between 20 to 24 years.
The upper age limit for candidates having Commercial Pilot License is relaxed upto 26 years.
Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch The age of candidates should be between 20 to 26 years.

Note - Final year students can also apply for AFCAT exam given that they have secured 60% marks in aggregate with no present backlog and must be able to provide provisional or original degree certificate before commencing the training. AFCAT 2 2021 appearing candidates required to submit proof of passing the degree examination by 30 May 2022.

AFCAT Physical and Medical Standards:

Candidates should be medically and physically fit to be eligible for the exam.

AFCAT Physical Criteria-

To apply for AFCAT, the basic criteria for candidate is to be physically and mentally fit. Candidates are advised to get themselves examined medically before filling AFCAT Application Form, so as to avoid rejections at a later stage. Additionally, candidates must be free from any disease or disability.
