What is AFCAT Notification?

AFCAT is an exam which can give you wings. If you have the dream of working between the sprawling jets, you can turn this dream into reality through this exam.

The Air Force Common Admission Test, in short it is called AFCAT, is a national level defence exam; conducted by the Indian Air Force twice (usually in February and August/September) every year for selection of Officers in various branches of the air force including

• Flying Branch (Short Service Commission)
• Technical Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)
• Ground Duty Branch (Short Service Commission and Permanent Commission)

Below are the major changes done since AFCAT 1 2023 Exam:

• Now No EKT is being taken since AFCAT 1 2023 Exam.
• Now No Permanent Commission is being offered through AFCAT since 2023.
• The new addition of the Weapons System Branch is done.
• Written Exam for Meteorology Branch since AFCAT 2023 is announced.

Type of Commission

PC for Men:

Since 2023 exam, PC i.e. Permanent Commission is not being offered. Now candidates joining as officers in air force through afcat won't able to serve till the age of superannuation.

SSC for Men & Women:

The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is 14 years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable) Initial tenure for SSC officers in Ground Duty (Tech) and Ground Duty (Non-Tech) Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, suitability, service requirements and availability of vacancies.

AFCAT Application Process & Fee

The application fee for the exam is Rs.550/- plus gst which can be paid online through credit card/debit card/net banking. Aadhaar Card is compulsory to fill AFCAT application form. The application process involves the following steps:

• Registration by filling the basic details
• Filling the detailed application form
• Uploading the scanned documents
• Paying the application fees

AFCAT Admit Card

AFCAT admit card is issued in last week of January / first week of Feb for AFCAT I and first week of August for AFCAT II. Admit Card is sent to the registered email IDs and also be available at careerindianairforce.cdac.in . Candidates can download their AFCAT Admit Card by following the steps mentioned below:

• Visit the official website of Indian Air force, go to the career section.
• Click on the Candidate Login section.
• Type your E-mail ID and Password to log in and download the admit card.
• A window showing the admit card will appear.
• Click on download admit card.
• After downloading the admit card take a printout of the same.

Documents required to fill AFCAT Application

Candidates should keep the following documents ready for AFCAT apply online.

• Aadhaar Card
• Credit/ Debit cards
• Marksheets of Class 12 and graduation/diploma/Integrated Post Graduation
• Scanned images of photograph, signature and left thumb impression

AFCAT Selection Process

The selection process of AFCAT includes the following stages:

• Online Test: Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT - only for Technical branch). All registered candidates are required to first appear for the online test. The question paper of AFCAT will carry questions from General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test. EKT question paper carries questions from subjects -Mechanical, Computer Science and Electrical & Electronics. Maximum marks allotted to AFCAT are 300. The test paper of EKT carries total 150 marks.
• AFSB Interview: Candidates declared successful in AFCAT exam are called for AFSB Interview. The interview comprises three stages.
  • Stage I: Officer Intelligence Rating Test along with Picture Perception and discussion test will be conducted on the first day.
  • Stage II: Psychological test will be conducted on Day 1(Afternoon) and the Group Tests and Interview would commence after document check for the next five days.
  • Stage III For Flying Branch Only: Candidates applying for flying branch are required to appear in Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS).

What to carry and not to carry inside the AFCAT exam centre

Items to permitted inside the exam centre - The following items are allowed inside the exam centre:

• AFCAT admit card
• Candidate’s Aadhaar Card
• PAN card/ passport/ driving licence/ voter identity card/ college identity card
• Two passport-size colour photographs
• Ballpoint Pen (Blue or Black)

Items not permitted inside the exam centre - Candidates are not allowed to carry the following items:

• Docupen
• Slide rulers, log tables, electronic watches
• Mobile phones
• Blue tooth, pager

AFCAT Exam Centres
